Leo said: I am absolutely delighted at the Ministry of Defence’s announcement today that veterans who joined the Brigade of Gurkhas before 2007 will benefit from a £15m (2.2bn Nepali Rupees) increase in the Gurkha Pension Scheme.
I have repeatedly raised this issue in the House of Commons and with Ministers directly since my election in 2017 - so am very pleased that these sums reflect constructive dialogue between the UK and Nepali governments, and Gurkhas veterans.
This pension increase could be up to 34% extra, backdated to 1st January 2016, and will make a real difference to the lives of Gurkha veterans and their families - an important part of the British military for over 200 years and many years to come.
