Leo Docherty MP, in his role as Minister of State for Europe, attended the European Forum Alpbach this week in Austria, to discuss bold ideas for the future of the continent.
Speaking on the subject of Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine, Leo outlined how the Ukrainians will ultimately win it's defensive war: "The combat power, economic weight and political will of those who support Ukraine are clearly such that this points to success in the long term.
"We have to be realistic in our expectations. We cannot expect spectacular successes. But what we can do is empower them to continue their fight. It's a brutal war of attrition in a way, but that shouldn't stop us from continuing to wholeheartedly support Ukraine."
Leo spoke on a "war of attrition of disinformation" being undertaken by Putin's Russia, as "Russia will try to portray its actions as defensible and hope that some countries will lose heart because of the economic consequences."
The United Kingdom has been one of Ukraine's key allies in this conflict, and Leo stated how there "is unity across all political borders" in the nation's commitment to standby Ukraine.
