Farnborough a hub of global businesses and organisations based within the aerospace and defence sectors. Leo Docherty MP visited one such business recently, L3Harris Technologies, to see the wide range of capabilities produced here in the constituency across air, land, sea, space and cyber domains.
L3Harris have been based in Farnborough since September 2019 in a purpose-built 80,000 square-foot facility, with over half of this area set aside for the production, assembly, repair and maintenance of secure tactical communications equipment. Currently, L3Harris support and maintain the 50,000 BOWMAN tactical radios in service with the British Army.
The company is also actively involved in supporting the UK’s defence and security priorities, such as the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme, which aims to develop next-gen air systems that will operate in contested environments.
Commenting, Leo said:
"I recently visited L3Harris Technologies in Farnborough. It was fascinating to see and hear about the cutting-edge technology they are developing for military use.
"One recent project they've been working on was retro-fitting British vehicles' comm. systems that have been sent to help Ukraine.
"Many thanks to Keith Norton, Vice President & Managing Director, and his team for giving me a tour of the facility."
