Leo Docherty MP visited Harlow Hall in Aldershot to see how modern technology and design is creating safer and more comforting care homes.
The care home, part of the Hartford Care group, was the first provider in the country to implement the Sensio RoomMate system, a safety sensor which detects and prevents falls. Rather than using cameras or having a carer visit regularly throughout the day and night, which can be intrusive to a resident, the infra-red 3D sensor detects movements, such as a resident sitting up in bed, getting up from a chair, or leaving the room.
Carers at the home are then altered through an application to this movement, who are then able to take appropriate action. Using innovative technology in this way helps to prevent falls, injuries and ailments, whilst freeing staff times that allows for resources to be committed elsewhere, providing greater time for more personal care.
Commenting, Leo said:
"Thank you to Ben and the team for showing me, David and Bill round Harlow Hall last week.
"Harlow Hall is operated by Hartford Care, which was the first provider in the UK to use the innovate safety sensor RoomMate system, that detects and prevents falls in care homes.
"Locally, Harlow Hall has already made a big contribution to the community, having generously sponsored both Victoria Day and Armed Forces Day, and also sponsoring Aldershot Town FC."
