Leo Docherty MP visited Ukraine to take part in a European security summit
This week, in his capacity as Minister for Europe, Leo visited Kyiv to represent the UK at the Yalta European Strategy conference.
The Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference is an annual summit where the future of Europe's security is discussed. With Russia's ongoing illegal invasion of Ukraine still underway, the focus this year was again very much on Ukraine's security and the future.
During the summit, Leo met with the delegates, including Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Perebynis and Deputy Defence Minister Shevchenko, to discuss the steps the UK and fellow countries are taking - and what more can be done - to support Ukraine and work towards security and justice - including through the prosecution of Russian war crimes. Work is also underway to find legal routes to make Russia pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Commenting, Leo said, "A particular highlight was hearing from President Zelenskyy, who spoke powerfully about the moral choice presented by the conflict - siding with Ukraine, which fights for freedom and self-determination, or Putin's Russia, which seeks to dominate through force and fear."
