The Government has announced that the new Criminal Justice Bill will stop protesters from climbing on war memorials, as well as banning the possession of flares and pyrotechnics and the use of face coverings with the intention of concealing the user's identity.
Commenting on the new legislation, Leo said:
Recent years have seen completely unacceptable behaviour by some protestors defacing or climbing on war memorials. This disrespects our serving Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and especially our war dead, whose sacrifice and service are commemorated by these important memorials.
"I am pleased that the Government is moving ahead with measures in the Criminal Justice Bill to ban this type of disgusting behaviour. While everyone has the right to a peaceful protest, this does not extend to the desecration of our war memorials."
