Rushmoor Borough Council are to receive £20 million from the Government's Levelling Up Fund for a state-of-the-art leisure centre, library and cultural space in Farnborough
Farnborough MP Leo Docherty has welcomed £20 million of investment towards a new Leisure and Civic Hub in Farnborough. This is part of the second round of the Levelling Up Fund, and one of £210 million worth of projects to improve infrastructure and cultural projects across the South East.
Commenting, Leo said:
"The £20 million extra investment from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund means Rushmoor Borough Council are able to step up their plans for a brand new leisure centre in Farnborough. This will be for the creation of a state-of-the-art Leisure and Cultural Hub; an announcement following tireless efforts by Council officers in preparing such a compelling bid, and months of my own work in Westminster lobbying Ministers at the Department for Levelling Up, as well as other colleagues and officials across government.
"And rather than just a replacement centre, the new state-of-the-art leisure facilities, alongside a library, mobility hub, cultural and community spaces - including a playground and skate park - will form a new Leisure and Cultural Hub, and help create a heart for our community in a regenerated Civic Quarter that the whole borough can be proud of."
Leo joined leader of the Council, Cllr David Clifford, on site days after the announcement to discuss the next steps for the project. Designs for the scheme are already well underway, and if you have an idea what kind of facilities you would like to see in our new Leisure and Cultural hub, you can share your suggestions on Leo's Facebook Page, or by getting in touch directly.
Today's funding announcement, which is part of a £2.1 billion investment in more than 100 projects across the UK, will see money going towards improving facilities and infrastructure across the region.
