The expansion of Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) by the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) comes into force today (Tuesday 29 August).
This will mean that drivers heading into Greater London from the Aldershot constituency will now face a daily £12.50 charge, if driving a non-compliant vehicle.
The expansion of ULEZ will cover all of Greater London, including areas such as Heathrow Airport. This will mean passengers are likely to face ULEZ charges on top of the airport's £5 drop-off and pick-up charge.
Vehicles that are not compliant will have to pay a charge of £12.50 per day, with charging days running from midnight to midnight. If a driver fails to pay the charge by midnight on the third day, they will face a penalty fine.
Commenting, Leo Docherty MP said:
"The Mayor of London’s ill-judged expansion of ULEZ to the whole of London, has gone live today. This unnecessary policy will hit many hardworking ordinary people in the pocket.
"This comes on top of the London Labour Mayor's plan to scrap daily travelcards, further punishing people who travel into the capital.
"Many constituents have contacted me with their concerns on how this deeply unpopular scheme will impact them when travelling into Greater London, whether for work, to see friends and family, or for leisure.
"Thankfully, the Conservatives candidate for the next London Mayoral elections, Susan Hall, has pledged to stop the expansion on Day 1, if elected."
