Aldershot MP Leo Docherty joined representatives of Shaviram Group on a tour of their sites of proposed redevelopment in Aldershot Town Centre, including The Galleries, The Arcade, and High Street Car Park
Shaviram is proposing a scheme of 600 new homes together with new ground floor retail floorspace. The proposals also include a large, new public space that could be the focus for town centre events. Shaviram held a two-day public engagement event, supported by an online consultation, during July 2019 to get public feedback on these emerging proposals. The company intends to submit a planning application by the end of 2019.
Rushmoor Borough Council, in order to bring forward the proposals have approved, in principle, relinquishing their land interest in the High Street multi-storey car park and to take a long-term lease on a new 250 space car park, which will form part of the proposed redevelopment. This will mean that the existing car park will be redeveloped as part of the scheme.
Leo said:
"I am grateful to Project Manager Chris Wyman and his team for inviting me to discuss their proposals on-site, and I very much look forward to engaging in the upcoming public consultation once their planning application has been submitted."
I am also pleased to have helped Rushmoor Borough Council secure £3.4m of grant funding from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) to help with infrastructure works that will be needed for any future scheme on these sites."
