Leo Docherty MP met with local County Cllr Bill Withers to discuss the challenges posed by disposable vapes to young people's health and the environment
Cllr Bill Withers' recent motion on disposable vapes received unanimous cross-party support at Hampshire County Council, noting the impact of vaping on teens' health, the environment, and the need for further action.
Commenting, Leo said: "Having discussed the matter with Bill, I wrote to Ministers at Defra and the Department for Health to encourage more action. Five million single-use 'disposable' vapes are thrown away each year - many ending up as rubbish. Difficult to recycle, they can be a fire hazard if the lithium battery breaks. Some brands seem to be targeted at young people, with bright colours and flavours designed to appeal to children. This is not acceptable and I am encouraging Ministers to look into the matter to see what more can be done."
