Leo Docherty MP met with Alan Chitson, Director of Wellesley, to present the findings from a consultation with the residents of Wellesley, Aldershot, on what they would like to see in the Neighbourhood Centre.
As plans were drawn up for the Wellesley’s Neighbourhood Centre, Leo launched a survey to hear the views of local residents and to understand what type of facility they would like to see at the new heart of the Wellesley development. A letter was sent out to residents on the Wellesley estate inviting them to partake and share their thoughts.
There were numerous different suggestions from a hairdresser to a local farm shop, though the general consensus amongst respondents was for an accessible and disability community space, that could host different functions in a multi-purpose area.
Commenting, Leo said:
"The new Neighbourhood Centre on the Wellesley development presents an opportunity to create a new, vibrant community space, with local facilities and amenities on the doorstep of residents.
"The survey highlighted that residents would like to see a café/coffee shop, a mixed-use community space, a family friendly environment, additional outdoor areas with green space, a local convenience store, all with a high degree of accessibility that provides a focus point for the new community at Wellesley.
"I want to personally thank all those that contributed to the survey; I received some particularly insightful views that will help inform the delivery of a centre for all the community at the heart of the Wellesley development."
